I will be one of the first to admit that there was a time in my life where I didn’t have an emergency fund. Things would come up and I would need to find a way to get money quickly. I would be driving down the road, singing along to the radio and my tire would blow out: $125. Or one day I came home and there was water coming out of the storage room, the hot water tank was leaking: $500. Can you relate? I think we all have things happen to us that we don’t expect and we need a way to pay for them. So if you don’t have an emergency fund here are some ways you can get money quickly when you are in a bind.
Sell things you don’t need on Craigslist
There is a ton of stuff around your house that you don’t need and you might not even know it. Open every cupboard, drawer, closet, storage room, etc, and see what you can sell to come up with the extra cash that you need. I have sold old textbooks, cell phones, iPods, & designer clothes just to name a few. If you list it right, your item should sell on Craigslist fast.
Sell your plasma
I was listening to the radio yesterday and an Ad for this came on. Apparently some places will pay up to $300 per month for your plasma. I have never done this, so I can’t vouch for it personally. If you do end up doing this, send me an email and let me know how your experience went.
Good ole’ arbitrage: buy for less and sell for more
Every couple of weeks I will hit up some yard sales to look for items that are a deep discount and that I can sell quickly. I recently bought a brand new DVD set of the Band of Brothers/The Pacific for $10 and sold it quickly for $45 online.
Sell those gold coins that you have been holding on to
There are places locally where you can sell you gold, but just make sure you are not getting taken advantage of by paying high commissions. There are companies like Bullion Vault that will give you close to the spot price of gold, so be sure to check the daily price of gold before you agree to sell if you are doing it locally.
Make stuff in order to sell it
Have you ever heard of Etsy.com? It is a website where you can sell hand-made items and there is a large community of people that regularly visit the site. If you are good at making things, then this might be a great option for you.
Sign up for Fiverr
If you have a skill-set that people are willing to pay you for, then check out Fiverr.com. It is a website where you can sell your services for $5. For instance, if you are a graphic designer, you can design something for $5. I had my Facebook cover photo designed for $5 and I was very pleased.
