Financial Coaching

I have helped hundreds of people get their finances in order over the years. Whether it is meeting one-on-one for financial coaching or teaching classes to a room full of people, I have had the privilege of helping others achieve their financial goals in life. Below is a brief list of the coaching services that I offer to help you get from where you are to where you want to be with your finances.

Services

  • Help you create a realistic budget – Putting together a budget can be a challenge, I know from first hand experience. I have helped dozens of people create  a budget that is realistic, so I feel confident that I can help you as well.
  • Organize your debt in order to pay it off quickly – My goal is to not only to help you pay off your debt, but to help you do it quickly. My wife and I paid off $52,000 in debt in 18 months and I will help you put together a plan to pay your debt off fast.
  • Analyze your budget to find ways to reduce your expenses – Sometimes it is hard to see where you can cut costs and that is where I come in. I have looked at so many budgets over the years, that I can almost instantly recognize areas that can be reduced so that you have more cash to achieve your financial goals.

How is Financial Coaching different from Financial Planning?

When it comes to Money Coaching, also known as Financial Coaching, I stay away from giving investment advice on specific securities, which is what Financial Planners primarily do. As a Money Coach I focus more on increasing your monthly cash flow so that you can achieve whatever your financial goals are (i.e. getting our of debt, establishing an emergency fund, freeing up money to invest, etc).

How often do we have coaching sessions?

We can meet as frequently as you would like. We can meet on a per session basis or I even have monthly packages where you have phone/email access to me. I usually recommend at least 3 sessions to establish a realistic plan and make sure that it is working for you and your family.

What do the meetings look like?

First Session

The first meeting is about 90 minutes and it is best to meet in person. If you are married, it is ideal if both of you can be there as well. In this session, we will go over your expenses and create a Starter Budget so that we have a clear picture of where you are currently with your finances. Then I will give you feedback on how you can reduce your expenses, often times without having to make any change to your lifestyle. Typically I save people between $200 and $500 per month just by reviewing their budget.

Second Session

This is typically about 30 minutes and is done over the phone. We will basically review how things are going and I will answer any financial questions that you may have.

Third Session

This can be about 15 – 30 minutes and is done via phone as well. We will make sure that everything is going in the right direction and I will address any final concerns that you may have about your financial situation.

Why I decided to become a Money Coach

At one point my wife and I had $52,000 in consumer debt and it felt like that would take forever to pay it off. We knew that if we kept living the way we were, we would end up broke and potentially even bankrupt.

I put all of our spending down on one piece of paper and it was crazy to see how much money we were spending each month. We had subscriptions that we paid for that we never or rarely used.

I had financed a brand new car in our first year of marriage and we even put our honeymoon on a credit card. I became frustrated, but I knew that there was a way out. I just needed to create a plan and figure out how to make it happen.

I set a goal that seemed impossible at the time. I set a deadline to pay off all of our consumer debt in 18 months. I figured if we had a goal, then we could work backwards. Since we had $52,000 in debt, that meant that we would have to pay over $2,800 per month on our debt to hit our goal.

Well, we didn’t have that kind of money lying around. After looking at our budget I realized that the new car had to go. The balance owed was about $17,000 and that would take a huge chunk out of our debt. I was able to find someone to buy it, however, they only had about $16,000.

We made a deal and I came up with the difference by selling stuff around the house on Craigslist and eBay. At that point, we need far less to pay down each month. I went through each line of our budget, eliminating what we didn’t need or negotiating with service providers so that we paid a lower monthly rate.

In addition, I got a second job delivering pizzas on the nights and weekends. After all of this hard work and sacrifice, we were able to pay off all of our debt and wouldn’t you know we did it in 18 months!

This experience was so motivating, that I decided I wanted to help others with their money full-time. This began a journey working in the financial services industry which eventually led to me starting my own financial education company, Well Kept Wallet which provides curriculum and Financial Coaching services to people all over the United States.
